Q1: What is an “Overmantel”?
A: An overmantel is the stone extension that goes above the mantel shelf, usually reaching the ceiling. It turns a standard fireplace into a grand floor-to-ceiling stone feature wall.
Q3: Is the floor strong enough to hold a 2-story fireplace?
A: These are extremely heavy (can be 2000kg+). You must consult with a structural engineer. You will likely need a reinforced concrete foundation or steel support under the floor.
Q5: How do I install the upper part (overmantel)?
A: The overmantel is usually hollowed out in the back to reduce weight, or built from thinner slab facings attached to a framed wall. We provide detailed CAD drawings to guide your installer.
Q7: Do you provide the internal structural support?
A: We provide the stone cladding. Your contractor will need to build the internal framing (studs or cinder blocks) to hang the stone upon.
Q2: My ceiling is 20 feet high. Can you make it fit?
A: Yes. We custom design the height. For very high ceilings, we can add extra layers of stone blocks or taller columns to ensure the double-decker fireplace fits your room proportions perfectly.
Q4: Can you make a “Castle Style” fireplace?
A: Yes. We use rough-hewn limestone or travertine to create a rustic castle fireplace. We can carve massive lion heads, shields, and heavy corbels to replicate the Gothic or Medieval look.
Q6: Can we put a TV inside the stone overmantel?
A: Yes. We can design a recessed niche or a frame within the stone overmantel to house a flat-screen TV, blending modern technology with classic stone design.
Q8: Can I see a drawing before you carve?
A: Yes. For complex projects like a grand hotel lobby fireplace, we provide professional CAD drawings and 3D renderings to confirm dimensions and scale before production begins.
