It Looks Like Rust. It Lasts Like Iron.

Custom Corten Steel Sculptures (Weathering Steel)

Most metal tries to fight rust. Corten Steel embraces it.

This unique material changes with time. It starts grey, turns yellow, and settles into a beautiful, deep orange.

It brings warmth to a garden. It looks natural among the trees.
At Yun Sculpture, we specialize in weathering steel sculptures.

We do not use fake paint. We use real Corten steel.

Whether you need a large outdoor corten steel art piece for a park, or functional planters for a hotel, we build it to stand the test of time.

We cover the full engineering process — from steel grade selection to patina acceleration — in our metal moon gate design guide and corten steel water feature engineering guide.

Why We Love Rusty Metal Art

Clients often ask: “Is it rotting?”
No. The rust is actually a shield.

The Science
When Corten is exposed to rain, it creates a layer of “patina” (rust). This layer seals the steel. It stops oxygen from getting in.

The Benefit
Once it rusts, it stops corroding. You never need to paint it. You never need to clean it.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Corten (or Weathering Steel) is a high-strength alloy that forms a stable, rust-like appearance when exposed to weather. Unlike normal iron which rusts and rots, Corten’s rust layer acts as a protective shield that prevents further corrosion. It lasts 4-8 times longer than ordinary steel.

A: It is your choice. The raw material is silver/grey. We can ship it raw (it will rust naturally in your garden in a few months), or we can perform a fast-rust treatment in our factory so it arrives with that beautiful orange color immediately.

A: It is designed to last for decades, often over 50-100 years. It is widely used in bridge construction and architecture because of its extreme durability and zero maintenance requirements.

A: It is more expensive than mild steel but cheaper than bronze or stainless steel. It offers a fantastic balance of high artistic value, durability, and affordability.

A: During the initial rusting process (first 3-6 months), there can be some “rust run-off” that might stain stone or concrete. However, once the patina stabilizes, the run-off stops. Pro Tip: We can provide a pre-rusted treatment in the factory and seal it to minimize staining.

A: Yes, but they need to be pre-rusted and sealed (waxed or varnished) by us first. Since there is no rain indoors to feed the rust process, we must finish the surface treatment in the factory before shipping.

A: Yes. We cut Corten steel plates with high-precision lasers and weld them into any shape—from geometric animals to abstract ribbons. We can fabricate monumental sizes (5m+) for public parks.

A: Yes. It evolves. It starts as bright orange, turns to a reddish-brown, and eventually settles into a dark, rich purple-brown color over many years. It is a living material that changes with the seasons.
